Silvio "Sil", Alfred "Al", and Mario "Sam" Fortino
Brothers and AHS graduates who combined athletic successes with academic and professional excellence.
Their pursuits in the collegiate, legal, medical, and military arenas have combined with significant public service to reflect positively upon our school, our community, and our state.
Al Fortino - AHS Football QB and Team Captain; Team Captain of 1935 undefeated, MIAA Champion, and Nationally ranked Alma College Football Team; M.A. in Economics, University of Michigan; Law Degree, University of Michigan; Served in the United States Army during WWII, and was awarded the Bronze Star for action during the Battle of the Bulge; Practiced law in Mid-Michigan; Central Michigan University Board of Trustees (2 terms as Chair); Awarded Alma's Order of the Tartan for outstanding community contributions, 2001.
Sil Fortino - Starred in Basketball, among other sports, at AHS; Continued Basketball participation at Alma College, when the Scots were MIAA Champs and NCAA Tournament particpants; Served in the United States Navy during WWII; Graduated from Medical College of Wisconsin; Practiced medicine in Michigan, eventually becoming Chief of Staff at Lansing's Sparrow Hospital; Member of the Michigan National Guard, retiring as Full Colonel; Served on the Alma College Alumni Board; Received the Alma College George A. Herbert Distinguished Service Award, 1997.
Sam Fortino - Excelled in Basketball at AHS; Became an All-American Basketball Player at Michigan State University; set a Spartan scoring record which stood for more than 40 years (eventually broken by Magic Johnson); Played Basketball at the University of Detroit while in Dental School; Practiced Dentistry in the Lansing, Michigan area; Won Gold Medals at the the 1991 and 1992 Senior Olympics.
